A scenario comparison is often presented as two tidy lines. That can be useful, but it can also conceal variation, assumptions, and the difference between a planning example and a scientifically derived projection. Visual clarity should make these distinctions easier to see.
Describe what the lines represent
Explain the variable, units, baseline, period, geography, and method. If a line represents an ensemble summary, say how it was summarised. If it is a synthetic illustration, label it accordingly. A reader should not have to infer whether a chart describes an observed measurement, a model output, or a demonstration of an interface.
Show the relevant variation
A range can be informative when it has a clear definition. It might describe variation across models, a statistical interval, or a scenario envelope; these are different concepts. Avoid adding a shaded band without explaining its meaning. Where uncertainty cannot be expressed responsibly as a single interval, a short qualitative explanation may be more honest.
Connect the comparison to an action
Ask whether the difference would change the decision, and whether the decision is sensitive to other assumptions. A visually dramatic separation can be operationally unimportant, while a small change near a critical threshold can matter. Work with the decision owner to interpret the result rather than assuming that the chart speaks for itself.
